Description

The project was conceived as a refuge for a father and his son in Altos de la Zubia, an elevated site with open views towards Granada and its sunsets. The proposal begins from a typological inversion: it is not conceived as a house with a swimming pool, but as a swimming pool that contains the house within it. In this way, architecture ceases to be understood as an object and becomes activated as an intimate experience, constructed through the interaction between water, light and landscape.

The dwelling is articulated through two complementary routes. Emerging begins underwater, proposing an unexpected arrival, and ascends through a sequence of rooms related in different ways to the pool level: submerged windows looking onto a flooded courtyard, skylights beneath the sheet of water, and flush openings that turn reflection into a dynamic material. The sunken living room allows one to look simultaneously at the horizon and its liquid projection; the route culminates in a cantilevered lookout over the central courtyard, where the gaze opens up and the body gains lightness.

Submerging inverts the direction of the route: a wet platform, flooded courtyard, submerged seat and inclined topography lead to a progressive immersion that allows one to play, sit, swim, dive or contemplate the house through aquatic windows. The work acquires its meaning in use: the movement, sound and reflections of the water transform the spaces, blur boundaries and make the horizon and distant topography part of inhabitation.
