Description
Under the paradigm of “contribute or step aside,” our intervention begins by thoroughly analyzing the role the site plays within the surrounding urban scheme. It is a traditional urban void in which, over the years, things have ended up happening—parking lots, street markets—due to the citizens’ desire to appropriate this space. A natural and efficient result through which the city has demanded what it needed in order to improve this environment. A strategic point of entry and exit for the city, all of it shaped by the social context associated with the prominence of public transport and shared vehicles.
The proposal emerges from the creation of a space of exchange, not only cultural but also urban, to the point of generating Málaga’s first interchange, with the aim of enhancing the natural use the site currently presents. As a complement to the above, and in line with the much-desired philosophy of added value, the opportunity offered by this Caixaforum is used to generate a top-level green space, capable of becoming the forest of Málaga, ready to complete the green axis that the city suggests from Gibralfaro Castle. A sustainable east-west axis linking the new Caixaforum with the city center. An inhabited forest within which this new cultural space, so relevant for the city, is integrated, allowing the cultural offer to extend into the new outdoor spaces surrounded by vegetation that are generated.
