Description

Low-density residential areas usually develop in places with steep topography, where urban density does not find profitability. Because of this, the production of single-family housing often entails major earth removals in search of a flat surface on which to develop human family life, while eliminating any pre-existing habitat and turning large amounts of land into waste.

It is here that CASA AP02 seeks to intertwine architecture and habitat, a house-territory, where the design has made it possible to require only minimal excavation, avoiding tabula rasa and allowing 85% of the surface area to become natural habitat once again through a biological study and the replanting of native species. In addition, this house is conceived as a spatial continuum with its immediate surroundings, adapting to and dissolving into them. The dwelling is placed at an intermediate level, allowing the more private part (bedrooms) to remain completely buried, while the daytime area (living room, dining room, etc.) rests on the terrain, taking advantage of the views over the surrounding territory. The house unfolds across the plot, generating, as one moves through its interior, a promenade that looks toward and embraces a large central outdoor space devoted to family hedonism. Glass allows distant views to flood this central space of the house as well, so that they can even be enjoyed from inside the main bedroom. In this project, resources are focused on developing spatial complexity, relegating materiality to an austere solution. What remains now is for the garden-territory, newly planted this winter, to develop and spread, allowing others to co-inhabit the place.
